At least 38 Palestinians were killed in Israeli airstrikes across Gaza Sunday, hospital officials reported, as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu prepares to travel to Washington for ceasefire discussions with U.S. President Donald Trump, the Associated Press reported.
The U.S. is pushing a proposal that would establish an initial 60-day ceasefire and secure a partial release of hostages held by Hamas. The plan also calls for increased humanitarian aid to Gaza and lays the groundwork for talks aimed at ending the nearly two-year conflict. According to the Israeli military, it struck 130 targets across Gaza in the last 24 hours. While the military did not comment on specific incidents, it claimed to have targeted Hamas infrastructure and said a number of militants were killed in northern Gaza.
In Gaza City, two homes were hit, resulting in the deaths of 20 people and injuring 25 others, Shifa Hospital officials said. In southern Gaza, 18 Palestinians were killed in strikes on Muwasi, where many displaced civilians are living in tents. Hospital staff at Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis confirmed the casualties.
Meanwhile, an Israeli official said that the country’s security cabinet has approved allowing additional humanitarian aid into northern Gaza, where food shortages are severe. The official spoke anonymously due to the sensitivity of the talks.
Separately, Houthi rebels in Yemen claimed to have fired ballistic missiles at Israel’s Ben Gurion Airport overnight. Israel said the projectiles were intercepted.
Negotiations are set to resume in Qatar, though both sides remain divided. Hamas responded “positively” to the U.S. proposal but seeks guarantees of a permanent ceasefire and troop withdrawal. Netanyahu’s office has rejected these conditions, calling them “unacceptable.”
