Downing Street is firing up the spin operation after the Telegraph reported overnight that Macron is making additional demands of Starmer to get a ‘one in, one out’ deal over the line. Macron is more concerned about pull factors in the UK than the government is…

The French are pushing for additional action on the labour black market for asylum seekers as well as the easy provision of benefits which give the UK ‘El Dorado’ status. They also want an easier route for family reunification for asylum seekers who are yet to be processed abroad in one in one out proposals. Starmer will have to prove he can turn those pull factors around…

There is no comment from Downing Street but No10 spinners are busy running around a quote from the Elysee to the media:

“The French president looks forward to working with the Prime Minister constructively on this shared priority.”
