Comey was tailed by law enforcement after ’86 47′ post, media melts down

Disgraced former FBI Director James Comey was tailed by law enforcement after posting a picture of seashells in the form of “86 47.”

The Secret Service reportedly ordered plainclothed authorities in unmarked cars to follow Comey and his wife from North Carolina to their home in Virginia the day after the controversial posting, according to the New York Times.

According to former Secret Service officials cited in the Times report, an investigation into someone like Comey—lacking a violent history and having previously led the nation’s top law enforcement agency—would typically end there, as sufficient evidence would indicate he posed no immediate threat.

The Secret Service justified monitoring Comey by citing “exigent” circumstances, a law enforcement term indicating an urgent need for immediate action, according to two government officials. The specific nature of these circumstances remains unclear. At the time, President Trump was traveling in the Middle East.

Comey and former CIA Director John Brennan are currently under criminal investigation by the Trump administration. When Trump was asked about them potentially going to prison, he said, “I think they’re crooked as hell and maybe they have to pay a price for that.”
