The National Education Association’s annual convention early this July was reportedly a hodgepodge of pure leftist political nonsense that had absolutely nothing to do with children and their educational needs.
Writing for Fox News, school choice advocate Corey DeAngelis revealed that the National Education Association (NEA) convention’s radicalism began with its fringe, nearly Marxist resolutions.
One resolution called for the NEA to “defend against Trump’s embrace of fascism by using the term facism [sic] in NEA materials to correctly characterize Donald Trump’s program and actions.”

And yes, that’s correct — the NEA, the largest teachers’ union in America, misspelled fascism in its own resolution.
Another resolution claimed that any attempt by President Donald Trump to eliminate the Department of Education is an “illegal, anti-democratic, and racist attempt to destroy public education and privatize it in the interests of the billionaires.”

A third resolution called for the NEA to “defend birthright citizenship and oppose the attempt to revert to pre-civil rights movement – Jim Crow – legal concepts of ‘states rights’ in order to deny citizenship to the children of immigrants.”
A fourth resolution addressed the Supreme Court’s recent decision allowing parents to exclude their children from classes involving discussions of gender ideology.
In response to the ruling, “the NEA adopted a business item signaling its intent to keep pushing such content in classrooms,” DeAngelis wrote for Fox News.
The NEA also passed a resolution supporting “the mass democratic movement against Trump’s authoritarianism and violations of human rights.”
It just goes on and on like this.
The “tone” of the convention meeting meanwhile was reportedly set by the NEA’s 2025 “Teacher of the Year,” Ashlie Crosson, who used her convention speech to talk about how “deeply political” she is about her job.
“Once I realized how deeply political our profession had always been, I knew I could no longer stay on the sidelines,” she said.

DeAngelis noted for Fox News that nothing about the NEA’s behavior was new.
“Nearly all its political contributions go to Democrats every election cycle, making it less a union and more a money-laundering operation for the Democratic Party,” he explained. “With over $380 million in annual revenue, the NEA has plenty of resources to push its agenda.”
“This one-sided partisanship is particularly galling given the NEA’s unique status as the only union in the nation with a federal charter, granted over a century ago. This special privilege, bestowed by Congress, is no longer justified for an organization so blatantly partisan. Lawmakers should revoke this charter immediately,” he added.
In fact, six years ago, the NEA reportedly had a chance to accept a resolution to “rededicate itself to the pursuit of increased student learning in every public school in America.”
Guess what the overly political union did with the proposed resolution. That’s right, it trashed it.
It’s because of garbage like this, DeAngelis argued at Fox News, that so many parents are leaving the public school system in favor of private charter schools or even homeschooling.
“This radical agenda is free advertising for school choice and homeschooling,” he wrote. “Parents are rightly alarmed by a union that sees their children as ‘hostages’ to its cause.”
“Since 2019, there has been a mass exodus from union-controlled public schools, over a million families opting for charter schools, private schools or homeschooling. The NEA’s Portland convention only accelerates this trend, as parents seek educational options that prioritize learning over politics,” he added.
