Row Erupts Over Recording of Labour MP Allegedly Saying ‘I Don’t Care If We Stop the Boats’

An eyebrow-raising audio clip alleged to be the voice of Labour MP Jo White  – leader of Labour’s Red Wall Group – is doing the rounds on social media today, in which she appears to say “I don’t care if we stop the boats” during a meeting with residents at an HMO last night. Terrible timing for Starmer…

Jo White has since taken to Facebook to say the clip “misquotes” her and that she has reported it to the police:

“There is an edited audio clip being shared on Facebook which deliberately and fraudulently misquotes me speaking at a meeting with local residents yesterday evening. I have referred this to the police. There aren’t many other Labour MPs who have been more vocal about the issue of small boat crossings than me. Dealing with this issue is a key priority for Bassetlaw people and I am holding the Government to account on this, as I was elected to do.”

That isn’t a denial she said those words. When contacted by Guido, Labour gave no response. Either a very clever forgery or she said it, which is it?
