Scott Jennings cracks up when Dem talks about meeting discussing how to beat Trump

Daily Caller News Foundation

Democratic strategist Karen Finney made Republican strategist Scott Jennings laugh Thursday night when she mentioned a meeting where efforts to beat President Donald Trump were discussed.

Trump secured the 270 electoral votes necessary to win the presidency early in the morning on Nov. 6, defeating Harris in the 2024 presidential election with 322 electoral votes to 226 for the then-vice president. Finney went into detail about a meeting that included prominent Trump critic Bill Kristol.

“I think we also can’t ignore, not only [former Republican Lt. Gov.] Geoff [Duncan of Georgia] and the divides here at the table, but the millions of people, thousands of people who consider themselves anti-Trump, who were once Republicans, and a whole movement of Republicans who — I mean, I can remember sitting at a meeting leading up to this election, I’ve got Bill Kristol sitting here, I’ve got, you know, former friends, conservatives from across the aisle. We were all aligned in how do we defeat Trump. It was a meeting to —” Finney said before Jennings interrupted by asking, “How did it work out?”

Trump held an 87% approval rating among Republicans, according to a poll from YouGov conducted from July 4 through July 7. Kristol has been a prominent never Trumper who serves as editor-at-large for The Bulwark, and declared he was a Democrat during Trump’s first term. Other ostensibly conservative anti-Trump figures pocketed millions of dollars through The Lincoln Project in the 2020 and 2024 presidential campaigns.

“You know what, Scott —” Finney said before a laughing Jennings added, “Just asking.”

Trump has seen a series of victories in recent weeks, including signing a reconciliation bill Friday that made the 2017 tax cuts he enacted permanent, as well as victories at the Supreme Court on nationwide injunctions, laying off bureaucrats and deportations to third countries.

The United States also struck facilities in Fordow, Natanz and Isfahan related to Iran’s effort to develop nuclear weapons early June 22 local time, using as many as 14 GBU-57 Massive Ordnance Penetrators in the operation, which involved a 37-hour flight by seven B-2A Spirit bombers and doing significant damage to Iran’s nuclear program.
