‘wasting time and dividing voters’

New York City Mayor Eric Adams is irate over the state’s former governor attempting to weasel his way back into the mayoral race.

Ex-NY Governor Andrew Cuomo lost his bid for the seat to socialist Zohran Mamdani, but it appears that he’s not letting that keep him down. Adams was out celebrating the Bolivian Day Parade when he blasted Cuomo for planning to re-enter the race as an independent.

“I didn’t lose in the primary,” Adams said to reporters, referencing Cuomo’s loss to Mamdani in the Democratic Party primary.

“We’re moving straight ahead. It’s so important that we continue to move ahead,” he stressed.

When asked if he would move aside for Cuomo, Adams asked the obvious question: “Are you kidding me?”

Expanding on this, his campaign released a statement that shredded Cuomo for trying to force himself on voters.

“This kind of political double-dealing is exactly why so many New Yorkers have lost trust in [Cuomo]. The people spoke loudly — he lost. Yet, he continues to put himself over the number one goal — beating Mamdani and securing our city’s future,” it reads.

“Now, in the face of a serious threat, an inexperienced opponent, Cuomo is wasting time and dividing voters. He failed them — and he’s failing New Yorkers now.”

Adams is also running for reelection as an independent, meaning Cuomo’s party switch would be a direct challenge.

“Mamdani, a state assemblyman from Queens, is leading the race with 35% approval, followed by Cuomo with 25%, Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa with 14% and Adams at 11%, according to a poll conducted by the political consulting firm Slingshot Strategies,” the New York Post reported.
