Netflix is proving that some companies just can’t let go of the “woke” plague that has waned since President Donald Trump’s reelection.
In the latest example of a corporation giving the people something they didn’t ask for, the wet shirt scene from the 1995 period film Pride & Prejudice has gotten the axe. The scene features a dripping wet Colin Firth, who plays Mr. Darcy, climbing out of the lake, his now-transparent shirt clinging to his chest. Given the type of sexual content that Netflix has allowed in the past (does anyone remember ‘Cuties’?), this seems on the tame side of controversial.

However, this scene will be cut in the upcoming adaptation of the Jane Austen classic. Actor Jack Lowden will be playing Mr. Darcy, while non-binary actress Emma Corrin has been cast in the role of Elizabeth Bennett.
An insider lamented the cut, noting that at the time, women all over were going absolutely mad for Firth’s iconic scene.
“It is also credited for sparking subsequent moments of male objectification on screen — like Aidan Turner’s famous topless scything scene in Poldark,” they added, according to The Sun. “But Netflix execs have made it clear they don’t want a repeat.”
Interestingly, while the lake scene has been a favorite among television audiences, it was not actually included in the novel.
X weighed in on the decision:
