WATCH: Starmer Invents New Definition for Working People
Another new definition of working people from Starmer. After ministers Heidi Alexander and Lilian Greenwood said only people on ‘modest incomes’ would be protected from tax rises in the budget Badenoch asked Starmer at PMQs: “Can the prime minister clear up the confusion and tell us what he thinks a modest income is?” Starmer came up with a new definition:
“I think of the working people across this country who put in every day and don’t get back what they deserve. And that’s who we’re working for. That’s who we’re fixing the country. the sort of people that work hard but haven’t necessarily got the savings to buy their way out of problems.”
Compare that to some other ones:
- Greenwood yesterday: “People on modest incomes.”
- Darren Jones two days ago: “Anyone who gets a payslip.” Lord Livermore said the same…
- Reeves last year: “People who do have savings, who have been able to save up and those are working people as well.“
- Starmer last year: “Earning my living, paying my taxes and knowing what it means to save money.”
- Reeves last year: “Pensioners that have worked all their lives and are now in retirement, drawing down on their pensions.“
Co-conspirators can rest assured that the working people wheel of fortune will hit ever-vaguer definitions come the budget. October Omnishambles as it is…
