A digital forensics expert raised questions on Wednesday during a NewsNation appearance about gaps in video from the jail where disgraced financier and sex offender Jeffrey Epstein died.
Epstein, who pled guilty to sex charges in 2008, was deemed to have committed suicide in his Manhattan jail cell while awaiting trial after he was arrested in 2019 on new charges. Digital forensics expert Jake Green told NewsNation host Ashleigh Banfield that comments by Attorney General Pam Bondi made things “stink even worse.” (RELATED: Daily Caller Editor Warns Trump Faces ‘Revolt’ If He Favors GOP Rep’s Amnesty Bill)
“There are so many issues with this video, the minutes missing, the jumps, we can sometimes see a cursor move in the top right corner,” Green told Banfield, a former CNN host. “There are so many pieces wrong with this video, & for the DOJ to release it, it’s strange, and it’s kind of unnerving to know that this is the way they want to do this.”
The video released by the Department of Justice (DOJ) from the Manhattan jail has a 62-second gap in 11 hours of footage, which Bondi said was due to the system resetting shortly before midnight each day. Metadata associated with the released video shows that nearly three minutes of footage is missing, and that it was spliced from two separate videos, Wired reported.

“What we’re seeing now, we can say rather definitively that this is not within the realm of digital forensics best practices,” Green claimed.
A DOJ memo obtained by Axios on July 6 stated that Epstein committed suicide and that no “client list” existed. Former inmate Michael Franzese, who was imprisoned in the same cell that Epstein died in, claimed during a Monday NewsNation appearance that there is “just no way” for someone to take their own life in the cell.
A coroner hired by Epstein’s brother claimed Epstein suffered injuries inconsistent with suicide. Charges against guards Tova Noel and Michael Thomas, who allegedly fell asleep while on duty and falsified records, were dismissed in 2021 following the completion of terms outlined in a non-prosecution agreement with the DOJ.
Some of President Donald Trump’s supporters have criticized him over the handling of the Epstein files, with the president being “ratioed” on Truth Social over the matter, Newsweek reported.
Trump fired back at the critics in a Wednesday post on Truth Social and also defended Bondi in a lengthy statement posted Saturday on the site.
“Their new SCAM is what we will forever call the Jeffrey Epstein Hoax, and my PAST supporters have bought into this ‘bullshit,’ hook, line, and sinker,” Trump said Wednesday. “They haven’t learned their lesson, and probably never will, even after being conned by the Lunatic Left for 8 long years.” (RELATED: ‘Manipulated The System’: Gregg Jarrett Accuses Former CIA, FBI Directors Of Framing Trump With Phony Dossier)
FBI Director Kash Patel told Republican Sen. John Kennedy of Louisiana during a May hearing that after reviewing evidence, he believed Epstein “hung himself in a cell in the Metropolitan Detention Center.” “Senator… we are, we’ve been working on that and we are doing it in a way that protects victims and also doesn’t put out into the ether information that is irrelevant for production for the public, such as CSAM [child sexual abuse material],” Patel added when asked about the delay in releasing the Epstein files.
Patel repeated his belief that Epstein committed suicide later in May during an interview with Fox Business host Maria Bartiromo, during which FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino agreed with Patel’s assessment. “He killed himself,” Bongino told Bartiromo. “Again, you want me to—I’ve seen the whole file. He killed himself.”
Epstein had extensive ties to celebrities, politicians and business executives, such as L Brands founder Lex Wexner, director Woody Allen and Prince Andrew, even after his 2008 guilty plea to the sex charges. Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates also met with Epstein a number of times, as did employees of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, with Gates meeting with the disgraced financier as late as 2019 despite concerns his then-wife, Melinda, expressed according to a May 2021 report by The Wall Street Journal.
The DOJ did not immediately respond to a request for comment from the Daily Caller News Foundation.
