President Donald Trump has threatened to sue The Wall Street Journal after the outlet released a piece alleging that the president sent deceased pedophile Jeffrey Epstein a suggestive letter.
The WSJ reportedly obtained a leather-bound album of documents, which contained birthday letters to Epstein prior to his first arrest in 2018, alleging the president had sent a letter containing the “outline of a naked woman.” In response to the outlet’s allegations, Trump denied the letter, calling it a “fake thing.”
“I never wrote a picture in my life. I don’t draw pictures of women,” Trump told The WSJ. “It’s not my language. It’s not my words.”
“I’m gonna sue The Wall Street Journal just like I sued everyone else,” Trump added.
The outlet allegedly reviewed a letter bearing Trump’s name, describing it as “bawdy,” with “several lines of typewritten text.” The text reportedly formed the outline of “a naked woman,” which appeared to be “hand-drawn with a heavy marker.”
Trump’s signature was allegedly written below the woman’s waist, concluding the letter with, “Happy Birthday — and may every day be another wonderful secret,” according to The WSJ.
While Trump has been public about his previous friendship with the deceased pedophile, the two reportedly severed ties around 2004, according to The Washington Post — just two years before Epstein was publicly accused of abusing girls.
In a separate response Thursday on Truth Social, Trump stated that both the WSJ and its billionaire owner Murdoch had been “warned directly” that the “supposed letter they printed” is a “FAKE and, if they print it, they will be sued.”
The president also called out WSJ editor-in-chief Emma Tucker, saying she had been told by both Trump and White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt that the alleged letter is not real.
“Instead, they are going with a false, malicious, and defamatory story anyway. President Trump will be suing The Wall Street Journal, NewsCorp, and Mr. Murdoch, shortly,” Trump wrote. “The Press has to learn to be truthful, and not rely on sources that probably don’t even exist. President Trump has already beaten George Stephanopoulos/ABC, 60 Minutes/CBS, and others, and looks forward to suing and holding accountable the once great Wall Street Journal.”
Vice President JD Vance has since also responded to the allegations, calling the WSJ’s piece “complete and utter bullshit.”
“Forgive my language but this story is complete and utter bullshit. The WSJ should be ashamed for publishing it. Where is this letter? Would you be shocked to learn they never showed it to us before publishing it? Does anyone honestly believe this sounds like Donald Trump?” Vance asked on X.
The media spotlight around Epstein began to ramp up on July 6 after the Department of Justice quietly released a memo, first obtained by Axios, stating that the FBI had found no “client list” and no foul play in his death.
Months prior, Attorney General Pam Bondi had vowed full transparency on the remaining “Epstein files,” but soon faced backlash after a botched release involving conservative influencers.
Questions soon circulated online as the FBI released over 10 hours of “raw and enhanced” footage, with a reporter later asking Bondi about a missing minute — prompting her to claim the error was due to the detention center cameras resetting itself.
With calls for Bondi to resign, Trump has repeatedly defended the attorney general and questioned why Republicans and supporters continue to push for the remaining “Epstein files.” Bondi announced Thursday that the DOJ is “ready to move the court tomorrow to unseal the grand jury transcripts” after Trump called for their release.
