Labour and Lib Dems Launch New Attack on Struggling British Farmers

As if the family farm tax and Labour’s sudden withdrawal of sustainable farming funding wasn’t enough of a headache for Britain’s agricultural community, there’s yet more. The Government launched a new attack on hard pressed farmers this week, joining forces with the supposedly pro-farming Lib Dems…

Angela Rayner’s messy Employment Rights Bill – which has been called the ‘Unemployment Bill’ by its opponents – will bring in a raft of ridiculous new requirements on farmers:

• Forcing farmers to give even casual farmhands guaranteed hours
• Giving farm staff ‘day one’ rights on sick pay and unfair dismissal in an industry where changing jobs between farms is the norm
• Forcing farmers to make payments for cancelled shifts, for example, if it rains on a harvest day

The farming industry is not office work, it has never operated on these expectations…
