Republican strategist Scott Jennings called out a former campaign spokeswoman for then-Vice President Kamala Harris Thursday, telling her she was living in “a fantasy.”
Some of President Donald Trump’s supporters have criticized him and Attorney General Pam Bondi over the handling of the Epstein files, with the president being “ratioed” on Truth Social over the matter, Newsweek reported. Jennings pointed to polling covered by CNN Thursday when Adrienne Elrod highlighted the criticism during “CNN NewsNight.”
“The facts of Donald Trump’s base are this, and we reported on this morning here on CNN. Since the Epstein business started, his job approval among Republicans has gone up,” Jennings told Elrod. “He’s over 90 percent with Republicans. It’s not hurting him with his base. I know you’re a Democratic strategist, maybe not an expert on the MAGA base.”

“The large voices in his base have been very frustrated,” Elrod claimed, before Jennings responded, “But look what’s happening. He’s gone up. Why? Because while we’re all sitting here dealing with this nonsense, out in real America, he’s signing legislation on fentanyl, he’s talking about the A.I. future in Pennsylvania, securing the border, big, beautiful bill. So, his numbers are going up with Republicans. This is a fantasy that Democrats have been engaging in since January that Republicans would abandon Trump. It’s not happening.”
CNN data reporter Harry Enten noted that support for Trump among Republicans has climbed since the controversy of the Epstein case resurfaced.
“This one surprised me a bit because of all of these complaints online going after Trump and the Epstein files, you might think his approval ratings were going down with Republicans. If anything, they’re going up. Republicans who approve of Trump — look at our CNN poll — the prior one, 86%, the one out this week, 88% with Republicans,” Enten told “CNN News Central” co-host Sara Sidner. “How about Quinnipiac? The prior poll, 87% approval with Republicans. This week out, 90% with Republicans. If anything, Donald Trump’s approval rating has gone up since this whole Epstein saga started. He is at the apex or close there, too, in terms of his popularity with Republican voters, Epstein files complaints or not.”
Trump picked up a series of victories in recent weeks, including signing a reconciliation bill on July 4 that made the 2017 tax cuts he enacted permanent, as well as victories at the Supreme Court on nationwide injunctions, laying off bureaucrats and deportations to third countries.
The United States also struck facilities in Fordow, Natanz and Isfahan related to Iran’s effort to develop nuclear weapons early on June 22 local time, using as many as 14 GBU-57 Massive Ordnance Penetrators in the operation, which involved a 37-hour flight by seven B-2A Spirit bombers that did significant damage to Iran’s nuclear program.
Trump also announced in a Thursday Truth Social post he was asking Bondi to seek permission from the courts to release the grand jury transcripts from the Epstein case. Bondi said in a response posted on X that DOJ would move to unseal the documents Friday.
