A driver crashed into a crowd of pedestrians outside an East Hollywood nightclub early Saturday morning, leaving more than 20 people injured, according to officials with the Los Angeles Fire Department.
The incident occurred around 2:00 a.m. near Santa Monica Boulevard.
Authorities say the driver may have lost consciousness behind the wheel, causing the vehicle to veer into the crowd.

Captain Adam VanGerpen, public information officer for the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD), confirmed the details surrounding the crash.
One witness at the scene described the aftermath in an interview with NBC News: “We look out the club, and it’s a car into the hole right there. And then it’s crazy, because people everywhere, laying down, unconscious, people, bleeding out and stuff.”
The LAFD reported that seven victims are currently in critical condition.

Six others were described as being in serious condition, while ten more were listed as in fair condition.
An additional seven individuals were assessed on site and declined transportation to the hospital.

Emergency crews responded quickly to the scene, which was immediately secured by law enforcement while paramedics treated the injured.
The identities of the victims have not yet been released.
Some individuals at the scene told authorities they believed they heard gunfire during the event.
The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) has launched an investigation into the circumstances of the crash and has not ruled out any possibilities. However, officials stated it is too early to determine whether the incident was intentional.
The LAPD has not yet confirmed whether any weapons were found on site or if any arrests have been made in connection with the case.
Investigators are expected to review surveillance footage from nearby businesses and gather statements from witnesses throughout the weekend.
The collision came just hours after a deadly explosion at a separate location in Los Angeles, where three members of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department lost their lives in a blast at the Biscailuz Center Academy Training facility Friday morning.
The Biscailuz Center, which houses the Sheriff’s Department’s Special Enforcement Bureau and Arson Explosives Detail, including its bomb squad, was the site of the explosion that claimed the lives of the officers. Sheriff Robert Luna addressed the public following the incident.
“There’s a lot more that we don’t know than we do know,” Luna said Friday.
“Our intent is to look at this from the very beginning and figure out what is it exactly that caused this tragic event.”
According to Luna, the blast represents the single greatest loss of life for the department since 1857. Authorities have not released the names of the deceased, and the investigation into the cause of the explosion remains ongoing.
Law enforcement officials have not linked the two incidents, but both events have prompted a heightened response from emergency services and city officials.
As investigations continue, both the Los Angeles Fire Department and Los Angeles Police Department are expected to provide updates in the coming days.
