‘Aggressive Maneuver’: Delta Flight Reportedly Avoids Collision With B-52 Bomber

A SkyWest Airlines pilot reportedly yanked his jet into an aggressive evasive maneuver to avoid a midair collision with a B-52 bomber while approaching Minot International Airport on Friday.

The Delta Connection flight from Minneapolis-Saint Paul to Minot touched down around 8 p.m. after what the pilot described as an “aggressive maneuver” to avoid slamming into the B-52 Stratofortress, according to The New York Times. “I don’t know why they didn’t give us a heads up,” the pilot told passengers after landing, according to the Times. “Because the Air Force base does have radar, and nobody said, ‘Hey, there’s also a B-52 in the pattern.’”

SkyWest confirmed in a statement to the outlet that the jet “performed a go-around” — a standard but rarely so dramatic abort of the approach — and said the incident remains under investigation.

Passenger Monica Green told the Times she felt the jet “sharply” veer right in the final moments of the flight and texted her husband midair: “plane keeps circling and not landing.”

An Air Force spokesperson told ABC News the service is “aware of the recent reporting” and is “looking into the matter,” confirming only that a B-52 assigned to Minot Air Force Base conducted a flyover of the North Dakota State Fair that same evening. Delta, SkyWest and Minot Air Force Base did not respond to the Daily Caller’s requests for comment.
