McGann, 28, entered the salon shortly before 5 p.m. According to hairstylist Adriana Ruiz Avalos, who was working that day, McGann’s appearance immediately made her uneasy.
“As soon as I saw him, as I was telling him to come into my chair, I had an eerie feeling about him. He looked soulless. He didn’t look right.”

Avalos said she had never seen McGann before. She noted his hair and scalp were in poor condition, calling it “very dry and matted.” His eyes, she added, were “very sunken.”
According to Avalos, McGann asked her not to cut the top of his hair, explaining that he wanted to keep his eyes covered. At the time, McGann had been evading law enforcement for several days.
The hairstylist who was cutting Andrew James McGann’s hair when he was arrested for the murder of two hikers said he was adamant that he “wanted nothing cut from the top” of his hair so his eyes would remain covered.

Police identified McGann at the salon after spotting his vehicle, a black 2022 Kia Stinger, parked outside. As plainclothes detectives entered the shop, McGann reportedly kept his head down.
Avalos said he remained mostly silent until one detective remarked, “I believe it’s your car.” Surveillance footage shows McGann being arrested while still wearing a barber’s cape.

Authorities say McGann ambushed the Brink family while they were hiking in Devil’s Den State Park. Clinton Brink reportedly fought the attacker to allow his wife to flee with their daughters, ages 7 and 9.
Cristen Brink then returned to assist her husband. Both were killed during the encounter. Their daughters survived and provided investigators with a detailed description of the suspect.
From the press conference-
Clinton and Cristen Brink were both stabbed to death with a knife. First he stabbed the father. Mom managed to bring their two daughters to safety. When she went back to check on her husband, that is when she was killed.
