Former Democrat strategist Dan Turrentine said Friday on Fox News’ “The Ingraham Angle” that former Vice President Kamala Harris will drop Democrats to “rock bottom” if she continues to double down defending former President Joe Biden on her book tour.
Harris announced her upcoming book on Thursday about her brief time as the 2024 Democrat presidential nominee, speaking with late night host Stephen Colbert about her campaign. Journalist Mark Halperin speculated whether Biden’s team allegedly had unflattering information about Harris to release if she flips on him. Turrentine was asked if he believed Halperin was correct. “I would never say that my colleague is not right. I think Mark [Halperin] is one of the most wired in people. He’s absolutely right,” Turrentine said. “Look, you saw with Hunter Biden, they are going scorched earth already on any Democrat who attempts to separate. Or people like Nancy Pelosi who did what they think that they had to do.”
Prior to Biden dropping out of the presidential race in July 2024, Democrats had publicly urged him to step aside following his disastrous debate against President Donald Trump, which raised concerns about his mental fitness. Reports indicated that, in addition to public pressure from Democrat lawmakers, figures like California Rep. Nancy Pelosi and former President Barack Obama also played a role pushing Biden to step down.
WATCH:
Harris accepted the nomination in the days following Biden’s announcement. The former vice president repeatedly defended Biden’s four years in office. When asked on “The View” last October if she would have done anything different from Biden’s “past four years,” Harris said “not a thing” came to mind.
When asked by Colbert on Thursday why she didn’t separate herself from Biden during her campaign, Harris said it would be addressed fully in her book and that she refused to “pile on” the former president at the time.
“So, again, if you’re Kamala Harris, if you thought that you didn’t want to pile on, then you should not have run. She cleared the field when Biden resigned that day because she so badly wanted to do this. So if what she’s going to do is now give a book tour and say, ‘I’m with Joe Biden.’ Joe Biden is unpopular. He was unpopular.”
“Candidates that run three consecutive times or three times like Ronald Reagan, Donald Trump, they are ideologically consistent,” Turrentine said. “The country comes to them. If she’s going to attempt to lead us into the future by arguing that Joe Biden’s presidency was good and we should continue it, man, I thought we hit rock bottom. Apparently, we would not have.”
Harris’ refusal to criticize Biden’s time in office comes after the former president’s son, Hunter Biden, sat down for an interview with “Channel 5 with Andrew Callaghan” in July. During the discussion, Hunter called out a list of Democrats who turned against his father, including strategist James Carville, George Clooney, and the hosts of “Pod Save America.”
