PELOSI Act to Stop Congressional Insider Stock Trading Passes Out of Committee
Senator Josh Hawley discussed the Pelosi Act, which aims to ban members of Congress from profiting from stock trades based on insider information, noting 86% of Americans support it. He highlighted instances of lawmakers profiting from stock trades, which aren’t covered by current insider trading laws. Despite passing a Senate committee, the bill did not advance further. Drew Berquist expressed skepticism about its future, citing self-interest among representatives. Tom Cunningham criticized the systemic issues, suggesting the law is designed to allow insiders to profit, and questioned what other significant issues might be overlooked.
