Police Arrest Man Accused Of Shooting Driver Who Allegedly Plowed Into Crowd

The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) arrested a man Sunday for allegedly shooting a driver who ran into a crowd near a nightclub, according to ABC 7 News.

LAPD arrested Fernando Ramirez on July 20 on several charges after he reportedly rammed his car into a crowd outside of The Vermont Hollywood, injuring dozens, according to the outlet. LAPD announced this week that they had also arrested Efrain Villalobos, 28, alongside Redondo Beach police, for allegedly shooting Ramirez after the car ramming incident. Police shared pictures of Villalobos in a press release, describing him as “armed and dangerous” and noting that he had several distinct tattoos, including the phrase “Respect is earned not given” on his right arm.

Ramirez allegedly was kicked out of the nightclub around 2 a.m. before getting into his vehicle, driving onto the sidewalk and running over a crowd of people, according to ABC 7. He hit a line for a taco food truck and a valet station, Fox 11 News reported, injuring some 37 people, the majority of whom were women.

Bystanders allegedly yanked Ramirez out of his car and began beating him after the incident, according to Fox 11. Villalobos then walked across the street and shot him in the lower back before running from the scene.

Villalobos’ court date have not been released yet, ABC 7 reported. Bail was set at $51,000, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s website.

Ramirez is currently facing 37 counts of attempted murder, according to NBC Los Angeles.
