President Donald Trump’s administration will not be keeping one of Elon Musk’s federal worker performance programs.
Musk had previously instituted a weekly achievement program for a number of federal employees, requiring them to send an email outlining their accomplishments for that time to justify their continued employment. This effort immediately went viral and received a lot of attention, both positive and negative, as Americans settled into the new era of government accountability.
The billionaire owner of X has since left his role under President Donald Trump, and now his most infamous policy will be scrapped by the Office of Personnel Management (OPM).
“We communicated with agency HR leads that OPM was no longer going to manage the five things process nor utilize it internally,” said Scott Kupor, the office’s director.
Kupor also noted that “at OPM, we believe that managers are accountable to staying informed about what their team members are working on and have many other existing tools to do so.”
This is the latest move signaling the deteriorating relationship between Trump and Musk, whose previous tight-knit relationship inspired hope that the federal government was preparing for a brighter, more transparent future.
“Musk was hired as a ‘special government employee’ and was permitted to work for the federal government for ‘no more than 130 days in a 365-day period,’ according to data from the Office of Government Ethics. Musk’s 130-day window ended May 30,” Fox Business reported.
X users reacted to the news that Musk’s program is going to be eliminated:
It may sound like a good idea, but it’s not workable in any management structure. The answer is I did my job.

Wrong going back same old thing where government workers do not show up or do any work. They hire so many people because they want to control them. This is unacceptable Trump disappointing

The cancellation of Musk’s productivity tracking exposes the rot. If federal agencies can’t even list five weekly accomplishments without panicking, that’s the problem—not the request. Bureaucrats scrapped the program because transparency threatens their cushy status quo.…

who needs to summarize their achievements when you can just pump and dump?

Too bad. Its how the real world actually works.

Probably because it’s no longer needed. They already eliminated most of the “dead wood”. Those remaining know what’s expected of them.
