A former youth campaign organizer for Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was arrested Friday in New York City on charges stemming from an alleged online threat targeting a Jewish high school in Brooklyn.
Iman Abdul, who also worked on state Sen. Julia Salazar’s Democratic primary campaign in 2018, was taken into custody by New York Police Department officers at her Brooklyn home.
According to police, the arrest followed a social media post in which Abdul urged her roughly 25,000 followers to “attack” the Leon M. Goldstein High School for the Sciences in Manhattan Beach.

“If anyone needs a public school in NYC to attack for whatever reason … Lexus driving Israhell loving Zionisits all attend here,” she wrote in the post, which has since been deleted.
Abdul also wrote, “They’ve all gone on ‘Birthright,’” referring to the program that offers free 10-day trips to Israel for Jewish youth.
The post included a screenshot of the school’s location on Google Maps.

Law enforcement officials said the inclusion of the map raised concerns about the intent of the message and the potential for harm.
Abdul now faces multiple charges, including making terroristic threats, aggravated harassment, threatening mass harm, and endangering the welfare of children.
StopAntisemitism, an advocacy group that monitors and exposes antisemitic incidents, first flagged Abdul’s post and shared it publicly.
“She should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law,” the group said.
In a direct message to the organization after they highlighted her post, Abdul denied that she had called for actual physical violence.
“I never called for an attack on the school in the sense of mass organization or not even individual people attacking individuals, that’s literally stupid,” she wrote.
Instead, Abdul claimed she was referring to what she described as a verbal challenge to the school’s character.
“I called for an attack on the school, the Zionist institution funded by our public dollars … we have every right to verbally attack the school,” she stated.

According to The New York Post, Abdul’s political involvement included serving as a youth organizer for Ocasio-Cortez’s campaign during the summer of 2018 and working as a paid canvasser for Salazar’s primary race the same year.
The Leon M. Goldstein High School for the Sciences is part of the New York City public school system and serves students from across the borough. City education officials have not commented publicly on the arrest.
Abdul has since deleted all of her social media accounts.
She was processed at an NYPD precinct before being released pending a court date.
She is expected to appear before a judge at a later time to face the charges.
The NYPD said it is continuing to investigate the incident and any potential threats connected to Abdul’s online activity.
