Former President Barack Obama reportedly called communist New York City (NYC) mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani to coach him after the 33-year-old’s stunning Democratic primary victory in June.
“In a lengthy call in June, Mr. Obama congratulated Mr. Mamdani, offered him advice about governing and discussed the importance of giving people hope in a dark time,” the New York Times reported on Thursday, citing “people with knowledge of the conversation.”
This, despite Mamdani having previously long ago trash-talked him.
@gcasey219 Hasnt Obama shown that the lesser evil is still pretty damn evil? How to improve if criteria is just “better than rep. crackpot”?

@MacJordaN @RosebellK I can’t trust quotes from @BarackObama, not since his continued lying in the face of Snowden’s #NSA revelations.

Reached for comment by the Times, Mamdani’s communications director, former Obama White House official Jeffrey Lerner, compared the two men to one another.
“Much like my former boss, Zohran embodies thoughtful leadership, moral courage, and a unique ability to inspire hope in those who’ve been left behind by politics as usual,” he said.
But the former president isn’t the only one in the Obama camp going to bat for Mamdani. So are many others. So many that the Times has predicted that the deranged communist “is likely to be embraced by the Democratic mainstream.”
One of them is David Axelrod, who previously served as Obama’s chief campaign strategist and senior adviser.
According to the Times, last month he stopped by Mamdani’s Manhattan headquarters to learn more about him and his staff.
“What I found when I went over to that office was a familiar spirit that I hadn’t seen in a while of just determined, upbeat idealism,” Axelrod told the Times.
“You may not agree with every answer he’s giving, or every idea he has, but he’s certainly asking the right questions, which is how do we make the country work for working people?” he added.
Actually, Mamdani isn’t asking questions — he’s instead proposing radical, communist-styled “solutions” that critics fear would destroy NYC.

Axelrod also praised Mamdani’s ability to inspire young and dumb Americans who don’t know any better.
Others in the Obama camp have also reportedly shown an interest in Mamdani.
“Jon Favreau, who served as Mr. Obama’s speechwriter, and Dan Pfeiffer, a former senior adviser, have been in communication with the Democratic strategist Morris Katz, among Mr. Mamdani’s closest aides,” the Times notes.
“Mr. Axelrod was introduced to Mr. Mamdani by Patrick Gaspard, another Obama insider. Mr. Gaspard — Mr. Obama’s 2008 national political director, and later the U.S. ambassador to South Africa — has been serving as an informal adviser to Mr. Mamdani,” the report continues.
And then there’s top former Obama administration Ben Rhodes, who penned a recent essay for the Times arguing that the Democratic Party needs to stop being “afraid of its own future” and fully embrace Mamdani’s communism, aka “Democratic Socialism.”
“Even when presented with Zohran Mamdani’s campaign in New York — an innovative example of fresh political tactics and policies — many party leaders recoiled,” he wrote. “The party seems — quite literally — afraid of its own future.”
“It is past time for Democrats to do what Mr. Mamdani did in his campaign: get out in communities. Don’t live in fear of bad-faith attacks. Mine cities and state legislatures for new ideas. Enlist civil society, faith groups, beleaguered universities, and industry in envisioning an alternative future,” he added.
Ironically, the essay was mainly about President Donald Trump:
“Trump may be able to escape the consequences of his actions; the rest of us cannot.” https://t.co/9426RFP1Ef

“Trump is a 79-year-old strongman nostalgic for the past,” Rhodes wrote as a conclusion. “His domination of the present is not permanent, but it is leading many Americans to live in the status quo he commands while ignoring where we are going. To overcome that reality, Democrats must mobilize people to believe in the future.”
And they must evidently do that by emulating a straight-up communist.
