Khan’s Vanity ‘Let’s Do London’ Campaign Cost £17 Million
Co-conspirators will recall Sadiq Khan’s grand “Let’s Do London” campaign – the taxpayer-funded bid to lure in tourists by “highlighting the city’s distinctive and diverse visitor experiences.” That ran from 2021 to 2024. It came with a hefty price tag…
According to an FOI response, over three years the campaign received £17,570,666. For that you could:
- Hire 566 new nurses.
- Hire 478 Met Police officers.
- Buy 55,428 Ultra Covert Body Armours
The campaign funded hundreds of ‘cultural’ events such as showing free films in Trafalgar Square, ‘bringing’ the Northern Lights into the Square Mile and various pop-up theatre, circus, dance and music performances. Guido doubts these events were the main draw for visitors, rather than London simply being one of the world’s top cities…
These days visitors will see “Mind the Grab” pavement signs warning them to cling tightly to their phones lest they be nicked. The taxpayer may have a view on which should be prioritised. UK DOGE recommends costs are cut here…
