No … just no … what are we doing, Rob?
Rob Manfred, the commissioner of Major League Baseball, brought up the idea of potentially busting up the American and National Leagues, which would then bring a realignment centered around geography.
Manfred’s comments came while making an appearance on ESPN for the Williamsport, Pennsylvania broadcast between the New York Mets and Seattle Mariners, with the game being played for Little Leaguers. (RELATED: Mariners’ Victor Robles Slings Bat At Pitcher After Erupting In Anger From Hit-By-Pitch)
“In my mind, I think if we expand, it provides us with an opportunity to geographically realign. I think we could see a lot of wear and tear on our players in terms of travel,” said Manfred. “And I think our postseason format would be more appealing for entities like ESPN because you’d be playing up out of the east, out of the west. And that 10 o’clock time slot where we sometimes get lost in Anaheim, would be two West Coast teams. That 10 o’clock slot that’s a problem for us sometimes becomes a real opportunity for our West Coast audience.
“I think the owners realize that there’s demand for Major League Baseball in a lot of great cities. And we have an opportunity to do something good around that.”
Well, this ended up angering baseball fans, and they absolutely cooked Manfred for it.
Manfreds realignment talk isnt just about moving teams around it tilts playoff balance. Some divisions get watered down others overloaded and rivalries that drive October storylines we love, vanish. Baseball needs competitive integrity not manufactured shakeups.

Say goodbye to NL/AL if Manfred gets his way. This guy has done more damage to the game than any other commish I can remember.

It would be nice if the commissioner of baseball actually liked baseball.

Go ahead and retire early, Rob, if we’re going to start pushing this kind of nonsense.
