Government Spends Almost £4 Million Every Year on Private Cars

The GCS has been transferred from DfT’s remit to the Cabinet Office this year. Departments have so far invoiced for two months-worth of car use. Their average use extrapolated over a year runs to a bill of £3,880,071. The most prolific private car users and their annual cost:
- Ministry of Justice – £496,188.48
- Ministry for Housing, Communities & Local Government – £391,495.86
- Department for Business & Trade – £388,134.12
- Department for Health & Social Care – £377,391.06
- Home Office – £373,162.32
- Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs – £267,110.64
- Department for Science, Innovation & Technology – £263,378.10
- Department for Transport – £251,335.92
- Department for Work & Pensions – £250,757.04
- Department for Energy Security & Net Zero – £244,298.46
- Department for Culture, Media & Sport – £141,337.32
- Attorney General’s Office – £139,953.24
