David Axelrod Claims Dems Uphold ‘Norms’ — But Reality Tells Different Story

Former President Barack Obama’s chief campaign strategist David Axelrod claimed on “The Prof G Pod” Wednesday that Democrats struggle to win because they believe in “norms,” even though they have repeatedly violated them in recent years.

Axelrod said on the podcast that it’s “a constant problem for Democrats” that they “believe in rules and laws and norms and institutions,” while President Donald Trump “does not,” putting them at a disadvantage. Yet just in recent years, Democrats covered up former President Joe Biden’s decline, nominated former Vice President Kamala Harris with virtually no primary voter approval and prosecuted Trump. “[W]hen you’re in a political battle with Donald Trump, it’s asymmetric warfare,” Axelrod asserted.

CNN anchor Jake Tapper and Axios reporter Alex Thompson authored a May book titled “Original Sin,” reporting that Biden’s staffers, Cabinet officials and Democratic lawmakers hid the former president’s decline in order to boost his reelection odds.

Moreover, special counsel Robert Hur issued a February 2024 report finding that Biden mishandled classified documents, but he decided not to charge him because any potential jury may have perceived him as “a sympathetic, well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory.” A transcript of the interview revealed memory lapses, like Biden appearing to forget when he began and ended his vice presidency, and the date of his late son Beau’s death.

Democrats attacked Hur by characterizing him as a partisan Republican Trump supporter, despite his legal career and political activity showing otherwise.

Biden’s party did not push him out of his reelection campaign until his disastrous June 2024 debate against Trump. Biden often stood with his mouth agape and seemed to freeze up and trip over his words.

The former president ultimately dropped out in July 2024 and endorsed Harris.

Harris secured the 2024 nomination in August of that year despite virtually no primary voter approval. Even left-wing voters and former President Bill Clinton adviser Doug Schoen said at the time that they had issues with the undemocratic process in which she became the nominee.

Trump faced four criminal cases during his 2024 presidential campaign, along with a civil fraud case brought by Democratic New York Attorney General Letitia James, who ran on prosecuting him.

A jury in the deep-blue New York City borough of Manhattan convicted Trump in May 2024 on all 34 counts of falsifying business records in the case brought by Democratic District Attorney Alvin Bragg.
