Russia unleashed one of its largest aerial strikes of the year against Ukraine overnight, the Ukrainian Air Force said, as President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on X that Moscow deliberately targeted an American-owned factory in Mukachevo.
Russia carried out one of its largest aerial strikes of the year against Ukraine overnight, launching 574 drones and 40 missiles that mostly targeted western regions far from the front line, killing at least one person and injuring 15 others, according to officials, the Associated Press reported. Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said that a “major American electronics manufacturer” operating in western Ukraine was among the targets.
Zelenskyy said Russia “wasted several cruise missiles against an American business” that produced consumer appliances such as coffee machines. Zelenskyy condemned the strikes as another example of Moscow’s disregard for civilians.
“In Mukachevo, the Russians practically burned down an American company producing electronics—home appliances, nothing military. The Russians knew exactly where they lobbed the missiles. We believe this was a deliberate attack against American property and investments in Ukraine,” Zelenskyy wrote on X.
The assault marked Russia’s third-largest drone barrage of 2025 and its eighth-largest missile strike, AP reported. Military officials believe Russia deliberately targeted western Ukraine because the region serves as a key hub for the transport and storage of Western-supplied weapons.
The attack coincided with renewed U.S.-led efforts to secure a peace settlement in the war’s third year. On Monday, President Donald Trump met Zelenskyy in the Oval Office to explore ways to end the conflict with Russia, joined by several European leaders who reviewed possible terms for a peace deal. Before the talks began, Trump urged Zelenskyy to drop his North Atlantic Treaty Organization ambitions and abandon efforts to reclaim Crimea. After the meeting, Trump announced on Truth Social that he had concluded discussions with Zelenskyy and the European delegates, saying they addressed potential security arrangements requiring U.S.-European coordination. He then called Putin to begin planning a face-to-face meeting with Zelenskyy.
