The investigation reportedly stems from a classified documents case that was initially opened years earlier and later closed under the Biden administration.
The FBI entered Bolton’s residence in Bethesda, Maryland, at approximately 7 a.m. Eastern Time. Just over 30 minutes later, at 7:32 a.m., a post appeared on Bolton’s X account.
The post did not reference the federal raid but instead focused on the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
In his statement, Bolton wrote that Russia’s objectives have remained unchanged and that peace talks would not succeed. “Russia has not changed its goal: drag Ukraine into a new Russian Empire.
Moscow has demanded that Ukraine cede territory it already holds and the remainder of Donetsk, which it has been unable to conquer. Zelensky will never do so,” Bolton said.
Bolton also criticized President Trump’s role in the matter, asserting that any further meetings with Russia would be motivated by personal recognition rather than policy outcomes.
“Meanwhile, meetings will continue because Trump wants a Nobel Peace Prize, but I don’t see these talks making any progress,” Bolton wrote.

The timing of Bolton’s post drew attention since it was issued while FBI agents were inside his home conducting the search. Federal officials have not disclosed whether the raid was connected to new evidence or a reopening of the earlier classified documents investigation.
The Justice Department has yet to release additional details regarding the scope of the probe or potential charges that may follow.

Bolton, who served as National Security Adviser under President Trump from April 2018 until September 2019, has not issued any public statement about the raid beyond the post on his social media account.
As the investigation develops, questions remain about whether the classified documents case will be revived and what implications it may have for Bolton’s future.
