Harvard orders removal of Black Lives Matter sign amid stalemate with Trump

Daily Caller News Foundation

Harvard University is reportedly forcing the removal of a Black Lives Matter (BLM) sign put up by teachers in a university building.

A Harvard administrator allegedly told the two professors who displayed the sign in their office windows in Harvard’s Northwest Science Building that it would be removed on Saturday for violating campus rules, according to The Harvard Crimson. The sign, which spans several offices, has been on display since the death of George Floyd in 2020, when BLM protests flooded major cities and college campuses across the nation.

The building manager reportedly gave a letter to the two professors citing the new university guidelines prohibiting “self-mounted displays” by staff and students without prior approval, according to the Crimson. The updated rules were adopted in 2024 following months of anti-Israel protests on campus.

“The letters mounted in several office windows in the Northwest Lab Building constitute a ‘self-mounted display,’” James Chisholm, Harvard’s Faculty of Arts and Sciences spokesman, said in a statement to the Daily Caller News Foundation. “This is not an approved installation, and that location is not one where exhibits and displays are allowed.”

“The University Campus Use Rules include a clear prohibition against self-mounted displays except in designated areas and with the advance approval of the relevant local School contact,” Chisholm continued. “Any installation like this in this location would be taken down, regardless of the content. If the display said, ‘BEAT YALE,’ it would have to be removed.”

Harvard has been accused violating several laws by the Trump administration, which claims the school has not done enough to tackle antisemitism and continues to engage in illegal racial discrimination. Despite losing billions of dollars in federal funding, Harvard has been determined to handle the complaints without the administration’s oversight.

The federal government is especially suspicious that Harvard is continuing to racially gerrymander its student body by using banned racial preferences in admissions decisions.
