A British Airways flight attendant pleaded guilty Friday to performing aviation duties while under the influence of methamphetamine during a flight from California to London, The Guardian reported.
Haden Pentecost, 41, allegedly locked himself in an airplane toilet after failing to assist with pre-flight safety checks. A colleague later discovered him naked and unaware of his condition, Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court was told, according to The Guardian. The flight’s manager removed Pentecost from duty after observing him “agitated, sweating and babbling” before takeoff. Pentecost complained of stomach cramps and said he needed to change his clothes before disappearing into the lavatory.
When a female colleague found him, she had to dress him and move him to a free seat, the outlet reported. The captain spoke to Pentecost before crew members called a health professional, according to court testimony.

Medical personnel monitored Pentecost every 20 minutes for the remainder of the flight. He displayed dilated pupils and an elevated heart rate throughout the journey, The Guardian reported. Paramedics transported him to a hospital upon landing at Heathrow Airport, where blood tests confirmed the presence of methamphetamine and amphetamine in his system. British Airways terminated Pentecost’s employment following the incident, the court learned.
The Basingstoke resident appeared at Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court on Friday, where he pleaded guilty to performing an aviation function while impaired by drugs. The court granted him bail pending sentencing at Isleworth Crown Court at a later date.
