Benefits Bill to Cost Every Taxpayer £3,000 a Year by 2030 Under Labour
The welfare bill is set to cost every taxpayer £3,000 a year each by 2030, according to a report by Tory think tank Onward. Starmer’s cave-in to the rebels on reform has left the taps running…
That’s a fifth higher than today’s £2,650. The report points to the OBR’s forecast that welfare spending will rocket to £378 billion by 2029/30, along with rising inflation and soaring debt. Onward director Simon Clarke blamed Labour’s ‘generosity’ encouraging more claims:
“We now have a Parliament dominated by Labour MPs who are apparently totally unable to countenance any reductions in public spending. When the Government tried to make welfare reforms earlier this year, ministers were forced into humiliating retreat, and ended up in the ludicrous position of actually increasing the total cost to the taxpayer.”
Meanwhile, the number of Britons on jobless benefits has smashed through to 6.5 million, up half a million under Labour. Brace for another round of tax rises in the budget…
