It’s Time To Savor The Last Weekend Of Summer

Labor Day is the unsung hero of holidays, a much-needed long weekend to celebrate the end of summer and usher in the fall.

It’s the perfect break as summer fades away, giving us one last chance to savor relaxation before the hustle of a new season begins.

August is like the Sunday of summer; it’s slow and drawn out. There’s something melancholic about it, the same way you feel late Sunday evening before a daunting week.

Unless you are shipping kids off to kindergarten or college, you might not be as busy as you were during July and June, the Saturday and Friday of the season, when everyone is trying to pack their schedule with as many activities as possible. If you’re like me, you are welcoming fall yet still feeling wistful about summer’s end. With fall comes fun new activities: maybe some weddings, better sports to watch on the weekend, cooler, less crowded, and faster golf rounds.

But the days become shorter, winter soon approaches, and before you know it, it’s dark at 4:30 p.m.

Labor Day weekend is all about savoring the twilight of summer, much as you savor the last few hours of a Sunday. One last ride; one last summer BBQ; one last beach trip.

Now we’re cooking.
