Rumors falsely claiming that President Donald Trump had died spread widely across social media late Friday into Saturday morning, drawing celebrations from some online users before being disproven when the president was seen leaving the White House for a golf outing.

Phrases such as “Trump Is Dead” and “Please Let It Be True” trended overnight on multiple platforms. Several users openly celebrated the unfounded speculation.

Another user shared a looping gif of what appeared to be a ritual with the words “TRUMP IS DEAD OR ON THE VERGE OF DEATH” repeated.

According to a report from Newsweek, the speculation began after the president had not been seen in public for several days.

The outlet confirmed that Trump was photographed Saturday leaving the White House and traveling to Virginia to play golf.

This is not the first time false claims about Trump’s death have circulated online.

X’s AI-powered chatbot, Grok, tracked more than 1.3 million engagements on posts speculating about Trump’s status by Saturday morning.

At 9:15 a.m. ET that day, the hashtag “#whereistrump” was the sixth most popular trending topic in the United States on X.

Supporters of the president responded strongly online.

One user wrote, “After 2 hours of sleep, @realDonaldTrump scrolls the psycho, sociopathic, leftest death cult posts, smiles while thinking, ‘I’m just getting started bitches!’”

Another commented, “Who started the TrUmP iS dEaD nonsense? You wanna know where is Trump, he’s right where he’s always been…rent free in empty heads.”

Others pointed out the celebratory tone of some of the posts. “People really celebrating and saying Trump is Dead. Y’all are showing your true colors. Then again you celebrate the ending of children’s lives, so I don’t know why I expected differently!” one user wrote.

The rumors circulated less than a year after two assassination attempts against the president.

During his speech at the Republican National Convention following the July 2024 attempt in Butler, Pennsylvania, Trump recalled, “There was blood pouring everywhere, and, yet, in a certain way, I felt very safe because I had God on my side,” according to Breitbart News.

In September, following the foiled attempt on his life in Florida, Trump emphasized that his resolve had only strengthened.

“These encounters with death have not broken my will, they have really given me a much bigger and stronger mission. They’ve only hardened my resolve to use my time on earth to make America great again for all Americans, to put America first,” he said.

Despite the spread of the latest online speculation, the president’s public appearance on Saturday underscored that the claims were false.

Authorities have not issued any statements regarding the rumors, but the incident highlighted the speed at which misinformation can spread on social media platforms.
