‘A Living Nightmare We Just Can’t Get Out Of’: Sister Of GOP Intern Killed In DC Describes Life In Washington, DC

Angela Tarpinian-Jachym, sister of slain Republican intern Eric Tarpinian-Jachym, appeared Monday on Fox News’ “Jesse Watters Primetime” to call for crime in Washington, D.C. to be stopped and applauded President Donald Trump for mentioning recent crime victims in that city.

Trump announced during a Monday press briefing that the National Guard would deploy to the nation’s capital to combat crime. Speaking with Fox guest host Brian Kilmeade, Angela was asked to react to Trump’s decision and also how he mentioned her brother’s case.

“It was very touching that he took the time to mention my brother along with all the other victims that have been affected by crimes in D.C. I am grateful for the president for mentioning him and all of them,” Angela said. “I think it was very important, and it really touched home that these are people. My brother is not a number. All these people are not numbers. They are humans. They are brothers. They are interns. They are coworkers. They are friends, godsons, grandsons. They are not just a number.”

Reports of Tarpinian-Jachym’s death said the 21-year-old intern was not the intended target but was near suspects who exited a vehicle and allegedly opened fire on a group near the Mount Vernon Square Metro Station. Gunfire was returned, and the former GOP intern was struck in the abdomen, reportedly by a rifle round that ultimately killed him, according to NBC Washington. Kilmeade told Angela her brother’s life should never have been in danger while interning in D.C. He asked how she and her family have been since the loss.

“I honestly still can’t believe it,” Angela said. “It’s like a living nightmare that we just can’t get out of. I mean, 10:30 at night. You should be able to go out and get dinner and go to a McDonald’s and get your dinner and come home and be safe. 10:30 is still a normal hour for a lot of young people. It’s not like he was out at three o’clock in the morning.”

“It was early, and it’s hard to wrap my head around,” Angela said. “It happened to my brother, but it could happen to any other intern or any other person, and it’s continuing to happen. So we need to step up as a nation. It’s not a Republican-Democratic situation. We need to take on this as a nation and stop the crime.”

Tarpinian-Jachym’s death came shortly after two Israeli Embassy staff members were gunned down in May near the Capital Jewish Museum in D.C. Following the intern’s killing, a former Department of Government Efficiency staffer was brutally beaten after intervening in an attempted unarmed carjacking in the city.

With the three cases drawing national media attention, Trump repeatedly said that crime in the capital was out of control. He even floated the idea of deploying the National Guard. While Democrats and legacy media pundits say the city’s crime rate has dropped 35% in 2024, their reliance on local police data excludes crimes such as felony and aggravated assault.
