‘A No-Brainer’: Clay Travis Tells Jimmy Kimmel What To Tell America When He Returns Tuesday Night

OutKick founder Clay Travis appeared on Fox News Monday to describe what he called “a no-brainer” for how Jimmy Kimmel should return to late-night television, and he urged the host to own up to his mistake.

Disney announced Monday that Kimmel’s late-night show will return Tuesday, days after executives canceled it “indefinitely” over his remarks about Charlie Kirk’s assassination. In an appearance on “The Will Cain Show,” Travis said he shared advice with Kimmel ahead of the comedian’s return.

“I will share the idea that I put out there that I shared with Jimmy himself. I think Jimmy Kimmel should come back on Tuesday. I think he should say that the phrase that he used to try to discuss Charlie Kirk was ill-written and poorly delivered,” Travis told Will Cain. “I also think he should say one of the reasons this might have occurred is because my writing staff might not really be aware of what half the country is talking about. I would say what he should pledge, and I would say this about ‘The View’ too.”

Travis said Kimmel should go further by pledging to feature voices from across the political spectrum each week.

“I would say he should say every week from now on we’re going to have a Donald Trump voter on as a guest, and we’re going to make it a part since this is a talk show that’s supposed to speak to all of America of trying to hear from all of America,” Travis added.

Travis said the move wouldn’t need to be overtly political.

“It doesn’t mean that it’s strided politically or anything like that, but I would say you could start with Adam Carolla, his old friend on ‘The Man Show.’ We had him on Clay and Buck today, who is a Trump-supporting L.A. comedian,” Travis said. “I think this is a no-brainer. I think it would be a smart move. I don’t know if he’ll do it, but that’s the way that I would say he should go about trying to address what he said on the show last week.”

Kimmel triggered backlash after falsely claiming during his Sept. 15 monologue that the “MAGA gang” refuses to admit Kirk’s alleged assassin, Tyler Robinson, shares their political alignment. He also mocked President Donald Trump’s response to Kirk’s death by likening it to a child mourning a goldfish. Disney CEO Bob Iger and Disney Entertainment Co-Chairwoman Dana Walden reportedly grew alarmed that Kimmel planned to escalate the controversy during his scheduled Wednesday monologue. Kimmel intended to say conservatives deliberately twisted his words — and he had no plans to apologize, according to The Wall Street Journal.

Kimmel also reportedly planned to directly address FCC Chairman Brendan Carr’s warning on “The Benny Johnson Show,” where Carr suggested ABC affiliates could face license challenges over Kimmel’s remarks about Kirk’s assassination.

Concerned that Kimmel had no intention of “turning down the temperature,” Iger and Walden decided to suspend his program, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The suspension ignited protests nationwide and drew outrage from prominent Democrats. During a Thursday appearance on CNN News Central, Democratic Rep. Eric Swalwell of California wore a “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” hat and said the decision to suspend Kimmel should “shake” every American.
