Actor Jeff Daniels’ vindictive wish is that Trump voters lose money

A holier-than-thou, Comey-loving, “Dumb and Dumber” take on the economy found actor Jeff Daniels hoping for a specific outcome for President Donald Trump’s voters.

Having gone on the record identifying as being a representative of the Midwest rather than Hollywood has never stopped the Emmy Award-winning actor from parroting the party line of the left. So it was that an interview with MSNBC’s Nicolle Wallace on her “The Best People” podcast found him invoking the name of Jesus Christ before expressing his hope that Republican voters are “losing tons of money.”

After praising former Vice President Kamala Harris as “a good choice” who he believed would have modeled an administration after President Abraham Lincoln, Daniels admitted “I’m just an actor, what do I know?” before arguing Kentucky Sen. Mitch McConnell (R) had somehow orchestrated a court-stacking plot to prevent a Republican minority. This, he argued, justified any dip in GOP bank accounts amid continued claims of “economic collapse.”

“But when [Kentucky Sen. Mitch McConnell (R)] started stacking the courts 25 years ago, I said it on your show once, they can see it coming,” the actor told Wallace. “The new America that is diverse and treats everyone with equality and respect and dignity, you know, kind of like Jesus did, we’re ready for that.”

“And Mitch and company could see it coming. They were going to be the minority, so they just started, and then here we are, and now you got it, and now you’re losing money,” continued Daniels, who expressed, “I hope you’re losing tons of money, those of you who thought this would be okay. My question is, what are you guys gonna do about it?”

In response, the host brought up Trump’s swing state sweep in the 2024 election as she said, “I mean, Michigan voted for Trump this time again. I mean, the tariffs are going to hurt your neighbors, they’re going to hurt.”

Despite a surging economy that found the University of Michigan’s Consumer Sentiment Index increasing to its highest level in months, record revenue from tariffs, an uptick in manufacturing output and sales as well as a decrease in jobless claims — all while egg prices have dropped at least 61% since Trump returned to the White House — Daniels kept up the negative outlook, “Which I think, at the end of the day, that’s what’s going to do it. You just gotta go. ‘Wait a minute, the grocery bill is what? $180 more? I can’t get that car that we have to have unless I pay another $8,000. What? Who do I blame for that? Who do I see about that?’ One person.”

Wallace added, “And I feel like some of the conversations we’ve had over the last 5-6 years were about this tug, not between right and left, but between decency and maybe if it’s about the cost of things, decency became a luxury. There’s something about decency being the sort of collateral damage, the thing we lose over wanting cheaper eggs. Do you think it was ever really about cheaper eggs?”

Daniels, who portrayed former FBI Director James Comey, who was recently named in declassified documents as part of an alleged “treasonous conspiracy” with a goal to “usurp President Trump and subvert the will of the American people” by advancing a manufactured claim of Russian interference in the 2016 election, reacted, “Well, I think at the end of the day it would be about just the price of eggs, did it go up or down, because that’s what — he told me, he was going to lower the price of eggs or my grocery bill.”

After Wallace claimed the president had manufactured an “economic collapse,” the actor added his opinion that Trump is a “snake oil salesman.”
