Actor John Cusack Says That Iran ‘Should Get’ Nuclear Weapon

Actor John Cusack drew attention Friday after publicly calling for Iran to obtain a nuclear weapon, claiming it would serve as a deterrent against military action by the United States and Israel, as reported by The Independent Journal Review.

“Iran will surely rush to get a nuclear weapon — and they should get one,” Cusack wrote on X.

“It’s the only way to deter US and Israel from bombing every country in Middle East.”

Cusack’s comments came in response to recent U.S. airstrikes on three Iranian nuclear-related facilities, an operation confirmed by the Department of Defense and hailed by President Donald Trump as “a spectacular military success.”

The actor, who has a history of criticizing Israel and U.S. foreign policy in the Middle East, has continued to post messages opposing military action by the United States and its allies.

In a previous post, Cusack wrote, “Blind allegiance for Israel is alliance to a genocidal regeme [sic] – it’s a nation state – run [by] a murderous gangster – not some fixed star.”

He did not clarify to whom he was referring as “a murderous gangster.”

Cusack also reacted to reports of Israeli airstrikes in Lebanon, posting: “Isreal [sic] bombs Lebanon! [W]ell they can’t have any days when they are not illegally bombing someone while US grovels.”

The actor’s calls for Iran to possess nuclear weapons directly contradict U.S. policy under both Republican and Democratic administrations.

The Trump administration previously withdrew from the Iran nuclear deal in 2018 and reimposed sanctions aimed at preventing Tehran from developing nuclear capabilities.

The strikes on Iranian-linked nuclear sites follow increasing tensions in the region, including Iran’s involvement in proxy attacks through Hezbollah and the Houthis. Israel’s military has responded with operations in both Gaza and southern Lebanon in recent weeks.

There has been no official response from the White House regarding Cusack’s statement.

Cusack, known for his roles in films such as High Fidelity and Say Anything, has become increasingly vocal about political issues, particularly those involving U.S. foreign policy and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

His comments have drawn criticism from supporters of Israel and national security officials who argue that promoting nuclear proliferation poses significant global risks.
