Rep. Brandon Gill outlined his support for multiple immigration-related proposals during an exchange with commentator Benny Johnson, pointing to legislation such as the Pause Act and Anti-Sharia measures as part of a broader effort to reshape U.S. immigration policy.
Johnson opened the discussion by asking what actions Congress should take and which bills are currently being considered.
“What should happen in Congress? What do you recommend? What bills are on the floor?” Johnson asked.

He continued, “Chip Roy is on here talking about the pause act with regularity.”
Johnson then pressed further on the issue.
“What bills do you support in order to end this, this madness?”
He added, “Because, of course, as we have documented time and time again over the last couple of weeks, we if imported every attack in 2026 wasn’t it was somebody who we brought here at great expense to come here and kill us.”

Johnson concluded, “It’s just suicidal, suicidal immigration ideology.”
Gill responded by agreeing with Johnson’s characterization and laying out the types of legislation he supports.
“It’s absolutely idiotic and suicidal,” Gill said.
He then pointed to specific measures.
“There’s a variety of legislation that I support.”
“The PAUSE Act is one of them,” he added.
“Anti Sharia legislation is one of them.”
Gill also referenced additional proposals under review.
“Congressman Ogles unveiled some legislation last week that we’re that we’re digging into now.”
He then described what he believes should guide immigration policy.
“The over overriding framework, I think, should be to drastically reduce immigration.”
He clarified that this approach applies broadly.
“Of course, illegal immigration, but also legal immigration.”
Gill continued by outlining conditions for entry into the country.
“Put serious stipulations on who can actually come into the country under any circumstances.”
He emphasized national security concerns.
“Making sure that you do not have Any allegiance to any foreign government. You don’t have any allegiance to any terrorist organization.”
Gill also addressed assimilation.
“And ideally, and I think you should be assimilable into American culture. Be somebody who can become American.”
He added, “And there are certain ideologies and worldviews that are unassimilable.”
Gill reiterated his overall framework.
“So I think that should be the basic framework.”
He then described the purpose of immigration policy.
“Again, the purpose of our immigration system is to benefit the American people. There’s no other reason it exists. We have no obligation to bring in anybody from any part of the globe.”
Gill concluded this portion by stating, “And that’s just a basic, fundamental principle.”
“And it’s amazing how far we’ve strayed away from that.”
Johnson later asked about the status of Anti-Sharia legislation.
“Yes, that that made some that hit my timeline this weekend, the anti Sharia legislation,” Johnson said.
He added, “Just really quickly, and conclude. In closing, what’s the status on that?”
Gill responded by pointing to growing support within Congress.
“Yeah, that’s something that has quite a few co sponsors,” Gill said.
He added, “Now, I don’t know the number off the top of my head.”
Gill then referenced his involvement in a congressional group. “But where I’m part of the anti Sharia caucus in Congress.”
“I think we have over 50 members now, all Republicans.”
He noted the size of the group.
“That’s quite, quite big for a caucus like that. So it is growing.”
Gill then addressed broader concerns raised by lawmakers.
“I think that, you know, every Republican, at least recognizes that, especially over the past two weeks, the threat of Islamic terror within the United States is very real. And it is killing our people.”
He concluded by describing the direction of support in Congress.
“So you are seeing a growing movement here of support from across the republican conference for bills like this.”
