Alice In Chains Abruptly Cancels Concert Amid Drummer’s Apparent ‘Medical Emergency’

Alice in Chains abruptly pulled the plug on their Thursday show after drummer Sean Kinney suffered a “medical emergency,” the band said on Instagram.

The famous rock band was slated to perform at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut, when the same-day cancellation was shared on their official Instagram story.

It appeared that the band had every intention of performing when things took a sudden turn.

“After our soundcheck this evening at the Mohegan Sun Arena, Sean experienced a non-life-threatening medical emergency,” they wrote. “We unfortunately have to cancel tonight’s show.”

“We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience,” the band added. “Refunds are available at the point of purchase.”

Fans immediately took to the comment section to send encouraging messages and well wishes to Kinney.

The band did not provide further details on Kinney’s condition or the circumstances leading up to his sudden medical crisis.

The drummer’s prognosis was not discussed during scheduled press time, Billboard reported.

The event would have been Alice In Chain’s first full concert since their performance at the Sick New World Festival in Las Vegas in April 2024, according to the outlet.

Alice in Chains are scheduled to perform May 10 in Camden, New Jersey, at the MMR*B*Q at Freedom Mortgage Pavilion and the Sonic Temple Art & Music Festival in Columbus, Ohio on May 11.

The band is also set to perform at the final Black Sabbath show in Birmingham, U.K., on July 5. (RELATED: EXCLUSIVE: Nova Music Festival Survivor Shares Her Story, Calls Out Music Artists For Political Messaging)

It’s unclear as of Friday morning if any of those live shows will be impacted by Kinney’s medical episode, or when the drummer is expected to return.
