All The Private Schools Closing This Year After Labour Tax Raid

Since Labour’s tax raid on private schools came into effect in January, at least 18 independent schools have publicly announced they are closing this year due to the VAT measures, while eight schools have launched consultations to close after the summer. Meaning around 3,385 pupils will be displaced. The casualties include: 

• Queen Margaret’s School for Girls, York – 200 pupils
• Bishop Challoner School, Bromley, Kent – 270 pupils
• Park Hill Prep School, Kingston, Surrey – 104 pupils
• St George’s Preparatory School, Boston, Lincolnshire – 77 pupils
• Talbot House Prep School, Bournemouth – 102 pupils
• St Joseph’s Park Hill School, Burnley – 128 pupils
• Woodcote House School, Surrey – 82 pupils
• Moorland School, Clitheroe, Lancashire – (Senior section only) – Unknown pupil number

• Falcons School, Putney, London – 134 pupils
• The Royal School, Haslemere, Surrey – 190 pupils
• Fairfield School, Backwell near Bristol – 129 pupils
• Bedstone College, Shropshire – 152 pupils
• Oxford House School, Colchester – 120 pupils
• Godolphin Prep, Salisbury – Unknown pupil number
• Maidwell Hall, Northamptonshire – 160 pupils
• Loughborough Amherst, Leicestershire – 284 pupils

The following schools have announced proposals to close this summer:

• Wakefield Independent School, West Yorkshire – 140 pupils
• Oakleigh House School, Swansea, South Wales – Unknown pupil number
• St Clare’s School, Newton, Porthcawl, South Wales – 150 pupils
• Kingscourt Prep School, Waterlooville, Hampshire – 125 pupils
• Highfield Prep, Maidenhead – 94 pupils
• The Village School for Girls, Belsize Park, London – 72 pupils
• St Hilda’s, Bushey, Hertfordshire – 151 pupils
• Ursuline Preparatory School, Ilford – 93 pupils
