Anarchy allowed to rage, ‘yet, if our parking meter goes 2 min long…’

After passionately reacting to the “thugs, anarchists, and idiots” on live television, a Los Angeles anchor admitted he “couldn’t contain my frustration.”

“And yet, if our parking meter goes two minutes too long …”

The impotent response from California’s elected officials evidently became too much to leave unaddressed Monday night when the streets of downtown Los Angeles became reminiscent of a movie from “The Purge” franchise. As such, Fox 11 anchor Elex Michaelson said what a lot of viewers at home were undoubtedly thinking as cops stood back, “I mean, who are we protecting?”

“Anarchists hammer the sidewalk in L.A. to collect rocks to potentially throw at law enforcement. They set cars on fire & vandalize businesses as officers watch from down the street. It’s rare that I lose my cool on the air, but I couldn’t contain my frustration,” Michaelson wrote on X early Tuesday as he shared the segment from the live broadcast where he was heard saying, “I don’t see why it can’t be stopped right now.”

“I mean, you got all these people out there, and we see what’s happening, and every station is showing it happening, and they’re smashing up rocks and they’re setting fires on the street,” he went on. “And yet, everybody is allowed to wander and do their thing.”

“And yet, if our parking meter goes two minutes too long, there’s a ticket right there. How does that happen? I mean, who are we protecting?” the anchor asked while discussing the chaos with Los Angeles Sheriff’s Professional Association spokesman Nick Wilson, a retired Los Angeles cop. “What are our priorities right now as a society that this guy’s allowed to hack the sidewalk. But God forbid I’m two minutes late on my parking meter.”

The former officer responded, “This should be ended right now.”

“I would look at the chief of police in Los Angeles, and I would look at the sheriff of LA County. And I would ask those two people those very serious questions. Because this could be ended right now. It’s not being ended right now, and the people deserve better,” continued Wilson. “This looks like a third-world country right now.”

“Should this be ended? Can it be ended? Absolutely. Is it? No,” he added.

The coverage came hours after Michaelson interviewed California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass (D) who both told him, “that violence is not okay; that we’re not gonna accept this sort of thing; that we need to crackdown on these thugs, and anarchists and idiots — is the word that the governor used. So, it’s happening now. So, when are we gonna crack down?”

Meanwhile, as Bass went on the air Tuesday night to announce the implementation of a curfew for downtown effective from 8:00 p.m. through 6:00 a.m. hours after protesters had once again blocked the freeway and an unlawful assembly had been declared, only then did the free-for-all expand from the isolated area around the Metropolitan Detention Center as protesters began marching through the streets. Worse still, many reported that enforcement of the curfew was not evident.
