Little sympathy was shown for the WNBA’s Angel Reese as the admittedly financially irresponsible player weighed in on the “disrespectful” proposal from the league.
“… we aren’t getting what we deserve.”
Just two days after comedian Shane Gillis proved an audience filled with athletes and sports commentators couldn’t tell they were being duped when he made up a WNBA player, members of the league were in the midst of talks for a collective bargaining agreement. Chicago Sky power forward Reese was among those addressing the negotiations ahead of the WNBA All-Star weekend insisting “We’re not gonna stop until we get exactly what we want…”
When asked about the talks between the league and the Women’s National Basketball Players Association (WNBPA) that had included about 40 players at a meeting the day before, Reese told USA Today’s Meghan L. Hall, “It’s bigger than me.”
“No player is less important than me or more important than me. We’re all here to fight for the same thing — what we deserve,” she said before going on to add, “We’re not gonna stop until we get exactly what we want, and yesterday’s meeting really woke me up to the eyes of we aren’t getting what we deserve.”
I asked Angel Reese about the CBA negotiations and the most important steps going forward now.

While speaking with the press, the player also contended, “It was an eye-opener for me. Like, hearing the things and hearing the language of things and not things that I was happy to hear. It was disrespectful, the things that we were sent back, the proposal that we were sent back.”
“It’s important to be able to be vocal. If I sit back, it looks like I don’t care,” she expressed. “Obviously, women’s basketball is skyrocketing. And it’s important for us to get what we want now, not just now, but for the future as well. It’s really nice to have vets that may not be playing for 10 more years, but they are speaking for us because they know how important it is right now.”
Contrary to the contentions of Reese, WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert had told The Associated Press, “It was very constructive dialogue. I think, you know, obviously part of the process is to go back and forth and, listen to the players, they listen to us and the owners who represent the board of governors.”
“I still feel really optimistic that we can get something transformational done by the end. But it’s a process,” she added while WNBPA President Nneka Ogwumike had said, “I’m encouraged, you know, I’m just so inspired by the amount of players that showed up, the engagement was there.”
In October, Reese had made light of her exorbitant $8,000 per month rent and the fact that her four-year rookie contract of almost $325,000 didn’t cover her bills or her lifestyle, primarily supported by her numerous endorsement deals.
“I just hope you know the WNBA don’t pay my bills at all,” she’d said in a video posted to social media. “I don’t even think that pays one of my bills. Literally, I’m trying to think of my rent for where I stay at. Let me do the math real quick … I don’t even know my salary — $74,000?”
“I’m living beyond my means!” added Reese.
Meanwhile, the AP also reported that this month the Chicago Sky had partnered with Moonshot Technologies to protect players on social media in a first-of-its-kind arrangement.
“It’s a great thing to implement right now,” said Reese of the deal that has the company flagging posts and, if needed, reporting to platforms or law enforcement.”It’s really important to be able to have that (protection), especially as a woman.”
That didn’t stop social media users from sounding off on the “entitled” players who seemingly wanted the league to live beyond its means as well.
Angel Reese, spare us the drama queen act—calling the WNBA proposal disrespectful is just pathetic trash talk from a overhyped loudmouth!
Grow up and quit begging, you entitled mess!

Doesn’t the league lose money every year?

She’s so entitled.
Not a good trait.

She wants more money to just come out of thin air because she surrounds herself around yes people who make her believe she is the LeBron James of her sport while she is mid at best in the league.

Bro your ENTIRE league is funded by the mens league.
You deserve to get paid based on the value of the tickets sold to games and sponsorship deals.
You cannot demand more money when the product you put out is not pulling in enough dollars to sustain the league.
