Disgraced former congressman Anthony Weiner is making a bold prediction about the New York City mayoral race: he says top Democrats will inevitably endorse leftist nominee Zohran Mamdani.
Speaking Sunday on WABC 770 AM’s “The Cats Roundtable,” Weiner said Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries will have little choice but to back Mamdani, the party’s official nominee.
“At the end of the day, people like Chuck Schumer and Hakeem Jeffries, they are going to have to endorse the nominee of their party,” Weiner said. He said that while some moderate Democrats may remain on the sidelines due to disagreements with Mamdani’s progressive positions, the party’s leadership cannot avoid the spotlight. Weiner said Schumer and Jeffries have been cautious issuing endorsements, aiming to protect moderate candidates ahead of the 2026 midterms. “They don’t want to harm their moderate candidates all around the country, which are the ones they need to take back the House and Senate,” he said.
Despite this political balancing act, Weiner suggested the outcome is inevitable. “Unfortunately, or fortunately … I think we’re going to have Zohran Mamdani as the mayor in New York City,” he said, predicting the Democratic nominee will ultimately secure both party support and victory in the general election.
