Army helicopter pilot dies in training accident in Kentucky

An Army helicopter pilot with the 101st Airborne Division based out of Fort Campbell in Kentucky died in a training accident this week.

The Army said the pilot of an AH-64 Apache helicopter, Chief Warrant Officer 2 Dustin Wright, 40, died at the scene following an accident Wednesday evening.

Military officials did not explain the accident or detail Chief Warrant Officer 2 Wright’s fatal injuries.

Another pilot, who was not named, also sustained injuries as a result of the accident. The injuries were minor and the pilot was released from the hospital following treatment Wednesday night, the Army unit said.

“The entire 101st Combat Aviation Brigade grieves the loss of CW2 Dustin Wright. A former Infantryman, Dustin cherished every opportunity to be outside and support ground troops. He did so with strength and honor. We will forever cherish the memories of his service, and his legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew him,” said Col. Tyler Partridge, commander of the 101st Combat Aviation Brigade.

The accident remains under investigation.
