According to Federal Election Commission (FEC) filings, the Harris campaign made a $50,000 payment to SpringHill Entertainment LLC — a company co-founded by James — on January 28, 2025.

The expense was labeled as “campaign event production” and linked to Harris’s 2024 campaign, which ended in defeat to President Donald Trump.

LeBron James had posted the endorsement just days before the election, telling his followers, “When I think about my kids and my family and how they will grow up, the choice is clear to me. VOTE KAMALA HARRIS!!!” The post reached millions of users through James’ social media platforms.

At the time, James framed the message as a personal decision made “for my kids.”

However, the newly revealed payment has led critics to question whether the post was part of a broader paid promotional effort by the campaign.

The Washington Free Beacon first reported the payment, which appears to be one of several transactions made by the Harris campaign to high-profile celebrities in the final stretch of the election.

Campaign records show significant payouts to multiple entertainment figures and media organizations.

Among the largest disclosed expenditures was a $1 million payment to Oprah Winfrey’s company for a televised sit-down interview with Harris.

Beyoncé’s team was paid $165,000 for a campaign rally appearance.

Rapper Cardi B received $58,000, despite her earlier public statements claiming she had not been paid by the campaign.

Al Sharpton’s nonprofit received a $500,000 payment shortly before Harris appeared on his MSNBC program.

Actress Jennifer Garner was paid $35,000, which covered production and travel costs.

Additionally, a company affiliated with Barack and Michelle Obama received $100,000 for “campaign appearances,” according to FEC filings.

The Harris campaign raised over $1.5 billion, making it the most expensive Democratic presidential campaign in history.

Despite the record-breaking fundraising and high-profile endorsements, Harris lost the general election to President Trump by 86 electoral votes and failed to win the popular vote.

Criticism of the campaign’s spending strategy has intensified in light of these disclosures.

Many political observers point to the campaign’s emphasis on celebrity outreach as a key misstep that failed to connect with working-class and independent voters.

Harris’s reliance on celebrity surrogates was viewed by some within the Democratic Party as out of touch with economic concerns dominating voter sentiment.

While the Harris campaign has not issued a response regarding the payments, scrutiny of the expenditures has only grown in the weeks following the release of federal filings.

By contrast, President Trump’s 2024 campaign operated on a more streamlined budget, emphasizing direct outreach and populist messaging.

That approach proved successful in battleground states and delivered Trump a second term in office following his defeat of Harris in November.
