The controversial assisted suicide bill looks likely to face a significant delay after a record number of almost 1,000 amendments have been tabled in the House of Lords.
The bill has been called an ‘utter shambles’ by pro-lifers, who say it includes inadequate safeguards to protect the vulnerable.
The number of proposed changes is unprecedented for a private members bill, and the bill’s supporters claim this is a tactic to kill the proposal by forcing it to run out of time.
