At Trump’s request, White House adds George Washington statue to Rose Garden

A bronze statue of Founding Father George Washington was added to the White House Rose Garden, thanks to President Donald Trump.

While the government continues to be shut down, moves are still being made to put America first in Washington D.C. This week, the statue of Washington that belongs to the National Park Service was moved from the Washington Monument to the Rose Garden.

“The 1992 statue is a reproduction made from a cast of the original white marble statue that resides in the Virginia State Capitol, according to the White House official. The original marble statue was made by French artist Jean-Antoine Houdon and is believed to be the only one of Washington done from a life mask,” NBC News reported.

There is some concern that exposure to the elements could oxidize the bronze used for the statue, giving it a green patina similar to that of the Statue of Liberty. Experts note that the iconic New York statue was once the same color as Washington.

This is one of the many changes that Trump has brought to the area, where he also installed “a pair of flagpoles” and paved over “a patch of grass that he has said, when wet, poses a problem to women in heels.”

“Their heels are going right through the grass, like 4 inches deep,” he said in a February interview with The Spectator.
