Canada is so petty, hot damn.
After the 2026 Winter Olympics was over, one of the largest questions centered around what the response from home fans was going to be for Team USA hockey players who suit up for Canadian-based NHL franchises. And this, of course, after the United States beat our neighbors up north to win the gold medal in men’s hockey.
The most-anticipated reception had to be the one of U.S. captain Auston Matthews, who is also the captain for the Toronto Maple Leafs organization. And, well, half of Maple Leafs fans should be ashamed of themselves. (RELATED: Caitlin Clark Spotted Hanging Out With Eileen Gu — It’s Time To Stop Being Fans Of This Overrated Saphead)
Prior to Saturday’s home game for Toronto against the Ottawa Senators, the franchise honored Matthews, as well as defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson and right winger William Nylander, who played for Team Sweden. When the spotlight was put on Matthews, half of fans booed him.
They BOOED him! Their own captain! Their own superstar! The disloyalty is real!

As a lot of you already know, I’m a pretty big hip-hop fan, with my favorite rapper being Drake. And as you’re probably aware of, he’s Canadian. In one of my top songs of his, “Omerta,” he says, “Man, truth be told, I think about it often, the petty king, the overseer of many things.”
I used to think it was just Drake being Drake, but maybe it’s a Canadian thing … regardless, we got the gold and you suckas don’t!
