Authorities raid likely location New Orleans escapee filmed video plea to Trump for help

More than two weeks after a brazen jailbreak in New Orleans, authorities raided a home where they believe an escapee produced a public plea that included asking for help from the president.

On May 16, a manhunt began for 10 inmates from the Orleans Justice Center after they had made a hole behind a toilet. With two of the men still on the lam, a raid was conducted at a home within three miles of the facility where law enforcement believes 33-year-old Antoine Massey may have filmed an Instagram video claiming he hadn’t escaped, but instead “was let out.”

“They say that I broke out. I didn’t break out, I was let out. I’m one of the ones that was let out of Orleans Parish jail where they said I escaped, right?” the man in the since-deleted video matching Massey’s description could be heard saying. “I’m asking for help from the world. From Meek Mills, Lil Wayne, YoungBoy, [President] Donald Trump. I’m asking for these people. I couldn’t even get a lawyer. I couldn’t afford a lawyer to prove my innocence.”

“That’s why I left the jail. They have a lot more brothers that’s innocent, just like me,” argued the escapee whose record includes domestic abuse involving strangulation, motor vehicle theft, and parole violation. Massey’s flight from the Orleans Justice Center marked his fourth escape from police custody, Fox News reported, as it was also detailed that the man’s sister had been among the more than a dozen people arrested for allegedly aiding the escapees.

In addition to claims of being “let out,” the video included a denial of threats against 33-year-old jail maintenance worker, Sterling Williams, who had been arrested for allegedly aiding in the May escape.

While authorities remained mum about the ongoing investigation, the Associated Press detailed that one senior law enforcement official had confirmed on condition of anonymity that clothing seen on the man in the video had been retrieved during the raid.

“If the individual depicted in the video is indeed Antoine Massey, we strongly urge him to come forward and turn himself in to the proper authorities,” said Orleans Parish Sheriff Susan Hutson. “Cooperating with law enforcement is in his best interest and may help avoid additional charges. It is important that justice is served appropriately and that due process is followed.”

Hutson had herself become a key focus of the escape after former New Orleans Police Department Superintendent Ronal Serpas slammed her “incompetence” amid the sheriff’s suspension of her re-election campaign.

“Sheriff Hutson has had a very checkered past in the last 15 years in the city of New Orleans,” he told Fox News Digital, “with multiple complaints of administrative failures as the [former] independent police monitor, multiple complaints as the sheriff and the consent decree management and multiple complaints of ethical violations that have resulted in findings by the Louisiana Ethics Board.”

Similarly, the eyewear choice of New Orleans Police Captain Stephanie Minto-Gibson, akin to something entertainer Elton John would wear, left many less than confident in how seriously higher-ups in local law enforcement were taking their responsibilities.

The other escapee still at large was said to be 28-year-old Derrick Groves, who pleaded guilty to two counts of manslaughter as part of a conviction for a 2018 double homicide. He had been awaiting sentencing since October 2024.

Authorities are offering $50,000 for information leading to the arrest of the escapees.
