The Tories hosted their ‘Spring Lunch’ at Mayfair’s luxury Dorchester hotel yesterday. An annual fundraiser independent of CCHQ, it’s aimed at getting more female candidates…

Tickets were selling in the vicinity of £350 – and the room was full. Accounts of the event vary: according to one attendee keynote speaker Kemi Badenoch “arrived late and gave a brief speech on stage before eating the two course lunch and shooting straight off at 2 p.m“, but other photos show a happy Badenoch schmoozing with guests in jolly fashion. A parade of other high profile (and ambitious) Tories turned up, no doubt to continue their frenetic networking…

Tory insiders still fire off regular briefings complaining that Badenoch lacks nous for schmoozing with donors in particular. After the locals drubbing and with big name backers headed for the door it will be important to keep the high rollers happy…
